This May, Let's Show Up As One
One City. One Purpose. One Family.
May is National Foster Care awareness month. This month, we’re raising funds, highlighting stories of hope and impact, and sharing the tools and resources available to families and those who support them. From podcasts and giveaways to donor engagement and community events, it’s all about building a stronger web of support—As One. Whether you’re a church, business, foster parent, or just someone who cares for our city—you have a place along The River.
We cannot and should not all do the same thing, but we can all do something. What can you do this May?
01
Connect
There’s a place for you this May. Let’s meet there. Foster Care Awareness Month is about showing up—with our presence, our voices, and our care. Whether it’s attending an event, getting to know local partners, or simply saying “we’re in,” connection is how transformation begins.
02
Learn
Awareness starts with understanding. Foster care is complex. So this May, we’re making it simple to learn—from stories, not just stats. Whether you’re new to this space or deeply invested, you’ll find resources to grow your heart and your perspective. Let’s continue to learn together!
03
Give
You don’t have to do everything. Just something.
Every donation this May fuels connection, care, and concrete support for families in crisis. Whether you’re giving once, giving monthly, or sponsoring a specific need—your generosity strengthens the safety net.

As One Voice
Things that matter are hard, but we don’t have to do them alone. In this video, we’re sharing powerful stories from the foster care community—voices of hope,. From caseworkers to churches, caregivers to community leaders, each story reflects the incredible work happening across our city to help families heal and children thrive. At The Riverside Project, we believe everyone can do something. And when we work as one, transformation is possible. Together, we’re making Houston a place where families heal and children thrive.
'As One' The Award
The As One Award is given to an individual who embodies what it means to work as one—someone who consistently shows up for children and families in Houston’s foster care space with compassion, collaboration, and a deep commitment to lasting change.
This person doesn’t just talk about making a difference—they do it. They step into the gaps, meet real needs, and bring others with them. Through their life and leadership, they remind us that when we work as one, foster care doesn’t have to remain a crisis to manage—it can become a system transformed, where children and families truly heal and thrive.
